I have loads of M.a.c products which I only use at weekends so it will take me a good few years to get through them all.. I was wondering if there is a shelf life on Mac products?
It's not just MAC products in general that will go off, all cosmetics will eventually go off at some point and become unusable. To make sure your products last as long as possible, it is best to store them away from heat and direct sunlight and ensure that the lids are screwed on properly at all times. Remember also not to share your cosmetics with friends because this can pass on infections.
Mascara
Shelf Life: Three-six months
Foundation Shelf Life: Oil-Free Foundation (12 months); Moisturising, Cream or Compact Foundation (18 months)
Powder
Shelf Life: Two years
Although powder will actually last longer, two years is the longest you should really keep it.
Shelf Life: Powder Eyeshadow (two years); Cream Eyeshadow (12-18 months) Powder eyeshadows can last for ages because they are mainly pigmented pressed powder. Cream eyeshadows have a shorter shelf life because they use emulsions that break down over time.
All the the cosmetics have an expiry date. If there is nothing on the package, test it yourself. Lipsticks and creams change the aroma. Before discolouration, which is a sign of significant use overdue. After around 2 years (sometimes after 1,5 a year) you should start testing for those signs and if you spot the difference - replace with a fresh product. Consider the time - how long the cosmetic has been displayed in the shop? Make sure that you bought your product from respectable retailers (Boots, Superdrug, or if you are into labels - any well known high street shops). Try to avoid cheapy 1 pound stores. Those products are usually "second generation" and life span is much shorter. Quality is also a question mark. Love the skin you are in - don't stinge on skin products. Quality is vitality.
There's a shelf life on all cosmetic products. In the UK it's symbolised by the pot with the open lid. For example the hand-cream on my desk has a shelf life of 12 months. I ignore most of it though because, like you, most of it lasts me for years.
all makeup goes off. On the label or packaging there should be a little symbol and it might say 6M or 12M... that's the expiry in months after you have opened it. If it doesn't say, phone or email them. Eye makeup especially should not be used for too long as it harbours bacteria and can cause irritation or infection.
I susally just use mine until it smells off or gives off a weird fragrance. It should last you a long time though. I have lipsticks & foundations from 8-9 years ago they're still ok.

I know how you feel I don't wear lots of makeup all the time
but u will get diff response... some make if it's power keep it up to 6 months, but eyeshadows that are powder can be kept up to a year nm a half
all CREMES MASCARASA ETC MUST BE THROWN OUT in 2-3 months
if you are still in doubtwhy not give some stuff u know ur not going to use away to your friends?
or at least have them pay u like something cuz MAC aint cheap
If you look on your product their should be a picture of a jar with 6, 12, 18, 24 next to it. This is your 'use time' once the product is open.
Sorry, have tried to find a pic but can't!
