I'm investigating the possibility of putting up solar panels. While I understand they're good for the environment overall, I'm looking for information about how and whether panels might affect birds around my home. Can anyone point me to some references online?

well i guess they will burn them if they jump on the panels...haha just joking bro..i dunno
Solar panels at worse is hard on the environment keeping them clean, so a lot of soap gets chemicals leech into run off water because many of the products are spray on from afar. Not climbing on your house once a month and polishing the panels with Windex. For that reason, I would invest in microinverters because your least producing panel dictates how the others work on a single high voltage system that many installers like to build. If you have a microinverter, each panel stands on it's own two legs, so if a bird takes an awesome dump, only that one panel looses efficiency.
Depending on the anchor system, the panels might be become bird homes.
There were no references that I am aware of.
Often the windmill farms are deadly for bird migration. Not the lonely few windmills for small residential power, but the types of windmill farms that go on for miles un-end. Just go out to West Texas, near Sweetwater, and there are places you can get to where there are so many windmills, that in any direction you can see windmills going off to the horizon with no end. At some places the windmills are so close to the road the blades look like the can hit the car.
