I really love the name McKinley for a girl. But on baby name websites, it says that it's only a boys name. I have only heard it on a boy once, and I've heard it on girls more often. It just doesn't sound boyish to me. What gender do you think the name is?
Update:Oh, and I'm not prego, in case you're wondering.

It sounds only approximately precisely like Landon.
I think it's a unisex name but I like it way better on a girl than on a boy. I love McKinley, we chose between this and McKaely for our daughter's middle name, we ended up with McKaely. I love Mac-names, Mackenzie (my sisters name), McKenna etc
I consider it a male name, because:
1. All Mc- or Mac- names mean 'son of', so the meaning is distinctly masculine.
2. It's a surname, and surnames as first names are usually masculine.
3. It's similar to Macauley and Mackinnon, both of which I really like for boys!
4. It doesn't sound particularly pretty or elegant to me, in fact the sounds are quite harsh, so I just don't find anything feminine about it.
:)
I personally don't like it for either, its a surname, and I dislike all the "Mc-" names, but I have seen two girls with that name, zero boys. Plus the fact that I think it sounds partly feminine, 0% masculine.. So I'm gonna go with girl.
I consider it neither, it's a surname, I find almost all last names as first names ridicules, especially Mc- names, it just makes it more obvious, and frankly i find Mc- names horrible, sorry.
I have two last names, one is a very common S boys first name, the other is less, but still quite common, I often find it's many peoples favourite Q name.
Whenever I hear them as first names i feel like my names been stolen, like someones trying to force their way into my heritage, I hate it.
Personally the only way I find it acceptable is if its a maiden name of his or her mother, grandmother, or maybe a relative a little further back in the family.
If it has to be one or the other, then masculine.
I like it better for a girl than a boy because I think that it is a very cute name and it just sounds more girly than masculine but that it just what I think.
It would make a horrible name for a boy. It doesn't sound boyish at all!
McKinley is a boy's name, plus there's the fact that any name with (Mc) or (Mack) at the beginning is a boy's name. It means "son of." but it would be fine for a girl.. nobody would know ;P
Um neither. It's a surname and should remain a surname.
