Absolutely. The ability to do "adult" things gives a child an incredible sense of responsibility, independence and self-esteem. They should be doing more than just keeping their room clean and making their bed. They need to know how to do laundry, cook meals, clean floors and toilets, keep yards looking nice, keep houses in repair, manage finances, and many, many other things to be a competent adult and childhood is training ground for all of this. Parents need to have a plan for their children to be successful and learning to work, really work, not just do menial chores of self-maintenance, is what will make them successful adults. Having your kids do such chores doesn't equate them with maids or servants, it gives them the opportunity to develop skills and become competent and you are actually making life better for them in the long run.
I dont believe children should be maids, doing housework without reward etc.
But I do believe children need to be responsible for themselves.
Which means cleaning up after themselves, bringing their dirty washing down, washing their own plates/bowls etc.
Once a child is old enough and wishes to earn some pocket money then they may start doing housework.
It makes me annoyed when parents give their children mass amounts of housework to do...Its like well if they are doing the washing, hoovering, cleaning the bathroom, putting the washing machine on etc then what are the parents doing?
Nope. If your kids are used to living in a clean house they naturally keep there own house clean. Im a neat freak and prefer to do all my own housekeeping.
