Anyone flying requires a passport (booklet type) order to board can international flight.
For land or sea crossings... any non-Canadian, America, or US permanent resident requires a passport. Canadians only require proof of citizenship, but would presumably have a passport or other ID since they would need one to leave Canada. US children (15 and under) or those part of a prearranged school trip may enter Canada with only proof of citizenship (normally a birth certificate or citizenship card). US citizens 16+ require either a passport (booklet or card type), NEXUS pass, or an enhanced driver's license. US permanent residents may cross with only proof of permanent residency (i.e. their Green Card).
Anyone under 18 also requires a letter of permission to cross the border.
In rare cases, Canadian Border Services Agency may allow a US citizen to enter Canada (at a land crossing) with out one of these -- typically an emergency, proof that they have applied for a passport or recently had a passport/NEXUS/EDL stolen, etc. and a replacement is coming.
By law, Americans travelling to Canada by land do not need a passport. However, you do need one to return home again, so, you will need one for the trip.
Everyone else, or, when travelling by air, needs one.

Yes. From the UK to Canada requires a passport, obviously
If you are flying, yes. If you are entering by land and are a US citizen, you can also use a passport card or an enhanced driver's licence.
Yes you do, if you are from another country.
Yes. Just like any other country.
Yeah, we're fussy about who we let in now.
Do you own it (Canada)?
