A root canal should not hurt. They generally hurt more when there is a pre-existing infection around the root. . In the case of infection usually the dentist will treat you with antibiotics for a week before even considering the root Canal. You will not be under a GENERAL anesthetic unless you are really a "wuss". Most dentist will give you a LOCAL anesthetic and throw a movie on.

also. . . the further back a the tooth, the harder and longer the procedure will take (also more likely the complication and pain).

My dad's had at least 2 and I think the after part hurts more than when your tooth first comes out, but the root's already dead.

I just recently had one (I had never had one before) - and I didn't feel a THING!! (and I'm a big wuss).

My dentist did an awesome job - I was scared for nothing!

The only uncomfortable thing is having your mouth open for so long!!

It doesn't hurt as long as they give u some shots before in your mouth.The shots don't hurt either just maybe the first one because u are expecting it but after that you will go numb. I had to done with I was in 6th grade because i got my teeth knocked out.

You'll be under a general anesthetic at the time...but afterwards, you mouth will be pretty sore for a few days.
