After getting quotes from several home contractors, a man with a tear tattoo under his eye offerred the best price. When my daughter and I met him, he seemed very nice to me. As soon as he left, my daughter worriedly informed me that teardrop tattoos are commonly understood to represent prison or gang related activity. Is that a fair assement? Is this man's tattoo reason enough to steer clear of him?

In some cases yes, they are symbols of gang activity.
Does that make it right for you to judge this man who could very well do a great job on whatever you want done? No, it does not.
Unfortunately tattoos are permanent and laser removal is expensive.
The tattoo that man has could simply be something from far in his past.
The best thing you can do is try to find out if he is reputable and honest in his work and not worry about his appearance and past.
That's not true. Just cause someone has a teardrop tattoo, doesn't mean they're in a gang, were in a gang, or are dangerous in anyway! I teardrop could mean many things. The most common thing for a teardrop to represent is the lose of someone close.
Not necessarily. While yes, teardrop tattoos were heavily used in California through members of Chicano gangs, is does not mean this man is apart of the gang or not. The teardrop usually symbolized that the wearer had committed at least one murder in his or her's life. Again, it is not good to judge someone based off of something so trivial.
It is up to you whether or not you trust the man. Do remember that everyone deserves a second chance in life.
I heard if the teardrops are not filled in it means someone will die for their revenge and if it's filled in it means they have succeeded. Or that they were unsuccessful in killing someone. Or it could mean they've been in jail or are part of a gang. The number of teardrops sometimes signifies how many people they've killed. Or it could mean they've lost someone close to them. Now a days it has a lot of meanings and is kinda of a fad. I personally think they are very trashy.
It doesn't always mean that, but that's what it usually means. This person might have been in a gang and gotten out of it, or maybe it was just a dare when he was younger. I wouldn't worry too much. Depending on what kind of work you're getting done try looking him up on Angie's list to see the kind of responce previous people have had from his work.
Teardrop tattoos meanings have changed
Originally OGz
Would get one if they did a long stretch in jail
Killed someone
Someone close died
but nowadays ALOT of fake or low level thugs are getting them
lol even Soulja Boy has them and he has ZERO street cred
So what? Maybe he turned his life around. Give the guy a chance. If he gave you the best offer, why are you going to turn that down? He's working. He's doing something. He means you no harm. He doesn't want to go back to gang or prison life. Don't pass him up.
A teardrop tattoo near the eye signifies that the person has killed someone. The number of tattoos reperents the number of people murdered.
One tear drop for each stretch in prison
One hollow tear drop for beating someone up
One solid tear drop for killing someone
Since he's a contractor I'd take it as he did time as a juvenile and has since grown up.
that could be his past. don't neglect someone trying to help you out because of a stupid tattoo. the world needs more understanding people! give him a chance!
good luck!
