Can you make really nice creamy ice cream using one of those home-made ice cream makers? The ones with a bowl you put in the freezer and then you stir the mixture inside.
Yes, we have one. The only problem is that it takes 2 days to make your icecream, for some recipes due to the fact that you have to put the bowl with the ice cream back in the freezer for 12 hours or so after it has been mixed. But I still think it's worth it...
Home made ice cream is wonderfull BUT you need to either use an electric ice cream maker or a handcrank type (the sort you sit in the kitchen sink or a tub) that keeps the mix turning continually till very thick...if you want to get really smooth ice cream.
The sort where you put a bowl of mix in the freezer and stir every so often will not make the ice cream smooth. The ice cream will have a grainy texture. It will taste OK, flavorwise, but will have a grainy texture.
To get a smooth creamy texture the mix has to be kept in motion all the while it is chilling down to a thick frozen mixture or else ice cyrstals will form.
This will take an hour or so to get really thick, after which you remove the inner canister of mixture from the ice and set it in the freezer to "Cure" (harden further) for a few hours. I'm guessing on the cure time because our teenage grandkids usually can't wait to eat it hard and eat it soft instead like a malt or milk shake.
We usually make it every month during warm weather, as well as other frozen desserts. It doesn't last long though. It's usually all eaten the same day we make it.
most certainly it is so much better than anything tha you can buy as you put in what you like and so many flavours and combinations to choose from the only thing stopping you would be imagination and your level of skill imagine what you could be eating and know theres nothing artificial about the icecream you have made for yourself
