I just started working part time as a call center agent (in Germany) and my boss told me that they also have a call center in San Francisco and they've been looking for people that speak German to make phone calls between 7 and 11am and they haven't found anyone in the past year. They pay 15$ per hour and put ads in the newspaper but no one seems to be interested. What could be the reason? And how can they find someone?
Update:low pay? that's twice as much as I earn here, lol...anyway, it's just a part time job and no skills required.

Q. Does no one need a part time job?
A. There are many persons in the U.S. who need part time jobs.
Q. They... put ads in the newspaper but no one seems to be interested. What could be the reason? What could be the reason?
A. There may not be many persons who both speak German and read the San Francisco newspaper.
Q. And how can they find someone?
A. Advertise in a German language newspaper. This will cost less, due to the lower circulation, and will ensure that those who see the ads meet the primary qualification (knowing German, which is very unusual in the U.S.)
I'm fairly certain that there are not many people that would want to a salesperson over the phone ... as they usually get hung up on (if that is what you mean by a "call center"). I guess there just aren't many people in San Francisco that speak German, maybe if they were to branch out into other states they would have more luck. The company you work for should also but ads on the Internet ... I think more people search the classifieds on the Internet rather than the newspaper. Try craigslist.com ...
There is no shortage of German speakers in San Francisco. You hear it constantly at Golden Gate Park, more so then any other non-english language.
The problem is the pay. That is really low pay for a skilled worker in the city.
Eventhough the largest ethnic group in the US is german, as a language german is only fifth in ranking for language.
Americans are tired of telemarketing or anything within the vicinity of it...no soliciting please !
