When I get up in the morning, I have this yellow sleep (can't describe it any better!) in my eyes which goes away after having a wash BUT the problem is during the day I have to constantly look in the mirror and clean my eyes as that yellow sleep reappears again and again? Please help.

Try this: when you wash your face at night, use the lather to clean your eyelids with eyes shut then rinse. Then put a little Bacitracin on your finger and paint your eyelids with the ointment. Don't worry if you get some inside the eye. You will wake up with clean eyes, I guarantee. What you have is overactive meibomian glands that gives you the 'sleep'.
In the morning do warm facecloth compresses on the closed eyes for a few min. Then apply pressure to the lids to squeeze out the glands.
My doctor told me about this once and it works.
What you call yellow sleep is pus, and this indicates bacterial pink eye. It's very contagious, and you must be constantly reinfecting yourself.
Best treatment is antibiotic eye drops or ointment, Next best would be an eye wash, and don't reuse towels or wash cloths. If you are a woman replace your mascara. This could very easily be your source of infection. You will have to keep replacing your mascara as long as you have pus in your eyes.
My husband has a similar problem.Mornings he has to open his eyes by prying the upper and lower lids open with his fingers.I am putting my foot down and he is going to a eye specialist next week! I sincerely hope your eye problem improves.
