How do i deal with my gfs dad?

He is a Cap, as am I. He likes confrontation. He took communications in college, but has constant difficulty communicating with his wife, his kids, his coworkers, and the court (he is suing his workplace.) He can get physical with his children, male and female. He reads these books on deep concepts and is constantly shoving the info down everyones throat in an effort to expose his superiority. (Major Inferiority Complex) He talks down to people when talking to them, very insulting. and calls you out on the slightest hint of insult, though he just agrees that he is insulting and continues. He loves to yell. He never makes his own food or anything, he has his wife at his becking call. He wants a drink, he orders it. Her schedule is based around his eating plans.

I am stubborn, spent alot of time in biker bars and don't like taking crap from people. I grew up with a Dad much like him, though more extreme minus the reading and inferiority part. I used to like confrontation, now i HATE it. Apparently i think I'm always right. Been told i like to argue.

Today he started blowing up and scribbling on paper over something silly and meaningless. I would explain if I understood, but i still dont know what his deal was. He just kept saying "I'M JUST TALKING ABOUT THE DEFINITION OF A BAR, CAN'T YOU COMPREHEND THAT!?!" Before yelling bagan i said "lets just have this conversation later." He continued. I said "i'm not talking about things when you are acting like this, we can talk later" then i walked out of the room. He then followed me and continued, now yelling. I said "this is childish and I have told you before, I'm not talking with you unless its a civil conversation." He got louder and started insulting my intelligence. I said, yelling, "I'm not dealing with this childish ****!" then i walked outside to where my gf and her mother were sitting. He followed me there. I continually told him in as controlled of a voice as i could that I wasn't going to talk anymore, not until he was calm and it was civil. He then leaned over the table and got in my face about it. I just continued. Then he threw some things. Then he sat down and started telling my gf how I cant understand anything. Then he calmed down and we began the conversation civilly. He then felt that I wouldn't let it go and blew up again and threw a lawn chair and stormed inside.

We then left to take care of some business we had to do in town. When we came back he was at the table and we sat and began talking. Hewas saying I didnt want to work with him, i said thats not true and i did, but not yelling and stuff. He then said that i was arguing and i said "yes, if you say something about me that is not true, i'm going to clarify it" He then started telling us how i was the problem because i wouldnt let it go. He never tried to explain how i didnt let it go when i asked though. (remember, i am the one who kept trying to walk away. and there was nothing for me to not let go, i didnt even understand what he was flipping out about)

Now he says that all of our communication shall be done through his daughter, my gf. I dont see how that can work, we are in a business together and have meetings every morning, now i am to say "Kat, can you please tell your Dad that .........." and then he is to say say, "Kat, can you tell Aaron ......." This is childish and doesn't solve anyhting. i it seems as though its just preparing for more problems. I know it won't be anytime at all till he is saying "Kat, can you please explain to Aaron, since he is obviously not capable of understanding the simplest of concepts ...."

That is how he talks to people. Very rude.

Can you please let me know your opinions on what i should do? He will be home in 1 and a half hours.

Last time he blew up we came back and had a sit down and explained we would not deal with him when he acted that way. He agreed it was not okay and it was over. That doesn't seem to mean anything though...
