Don't feel silly, I didn't know I had curly hair until i was 12! The second I was out of the shower my mom would sit me on the living room floor and go nuts with the blowdryer & the Indian Hemp until it was smooth & straight. I knew it was thick....but never knew I had curls!!

Based on your avatar & the fact your mom perms it I'd say wavy & curly to kinky curls. When you wet your hair & let it dry naturally if you get a lot of waves or curls you probably have tight curls (with no perm). If your hair looks crimped then your natural texture is most likely kinky curly 'Cree Summer' hair.

Next time you need a touch up get your fingertips into your roots see whats going on up there. You can alsoways ask mom to hold off a bit on the touch up to let your natural hair grow out a bit so you can judge for yourself to keep perming or go natural.
