When I was growing up my parents had a bird avery! Male parakets are way more colorful than the females. There cheeks have a brighter red than the females it is the same with cockatils.
A male parakeet has the color blue that runs across the top of his beak( or his nose)That little band of skin looking stuff. will be a blue color. It is easier to tell when you have more then one 'cause it is easy to see the difference in color then.Hers will be more of a pinkish or flesh tone. His will easily be recognized as blue though. We have one of each.
they need to be, sexed by the vet , this is a rod place up inside , which will tell you .which is which , the other way is the male tend to be bigger ,and have darker bills

ok right above the beak is a little square like thing..if it is blue/purple it is a male if it is white it is a female
make sure you are not looking at the yellow beak.
good luck
You can tell by their nostril area, right above the beak. (called the cere) Females have a beige color "nose" and males have a blue one.
males have a blue nose and female have like a tan nose.
