From low to high (closest to your neck to closest to your lap) the notes are EADGBE. Hmm, notice something? Both the low (closest) string and the high (farthest away) string are the same note, just octaves apart. Think about that when you start to play---that's the beginning of music theory. Also, do yourself a long term favor and forgoe TABS for real music notation. There is no theory or ability to improvise or change keys or play with other people in different keys or play a different instrument provided by TABS. Real music notation gives you all of that and more. The only thing Tabs do is show you how to play a song you already know. Of course, if your aim is to be a slasher and impress some stupid teenage girl, then TABS are your answer.
To get the notes right, get a tuner as someone else said.

You can buy a Guitar Tuner. That's how I did it.
You do it the same way as a non-newbie. Turn the tuning pegs.
Ask someone at the guitar store to show you how to do it, or how to use a tuner.

Without help, plan on having a lot of trouble and breaking strings.
You can watch Youtube videos for help, but still have major problems.
An electric tuner helps, but you need a good one and you need to understand them.
Eliminating help from an experience person makes it hard.
