I'm young and stupid. Well I'm having a lot of work done to my teeth. So I ended up paying a $153 co-pay today, when normally it's $50.
So how does a copay work? Does it go towards the dental work so insurance doesn't have to pay for it? Or is it like a service fee for the doctor just doing it?
I'm so confused...

First of all do you have dental insurance? Copay is your portion to pay, what you owe out of pocket. Insurance is only estimated to cover a certain percentage of the fee and you would have to pay the difference. So lets say you need a filling and the fee is $100, and your insurance is estimated to pay 80%. So insurance is estimated to cover 80 bucks and you would have a copay of $20. Can you explain more in detail. I hope this helped if your still not understanding.
