Okay long story short. I was told 1 year gym membership with free tanning and trainer at $160 a month, and cancellation anytime for $75.
Reality:
3 year contract, $160 a month, a NO Cancellation clause on the contract, and they are not letting me freeze the account. I called the number on the contract and the number of the gym that I went to. I had a family emergency and had to move away and they are not letting me budge. Literally signed the contract 48 hours ago. I have not made any payments and they don't have any bank account information (but they do have my social security number). How the heck do I handle this thing??? This is Strength Beyond Fitness in Kalamazoo Michigan. I have called everywhere and they are rude and hang up on me at the end of the conversation half of the time. I'm only 19 and due to the family emergency had to relocate 2 and a half hours away from the location and have no job here.

Gym salespeople have the same ethics as debt collectors...they will tell any lie to get your money. They view 18-21 year olds as saps who can be duped into signing expensive contracts they don't need and cannot afford.
Read the contract you signed: If it has the terms of "3 year contract, $160 a month, a NO Cancellation" with your signature on it, then there is nothing you can do. This is simple contract law. If you don't pay your account will go to collections and your credit rating will be damaged.
- Read before signing anything in the future. If you don't understand or agree, don't sign.
