If this sad occurance was to happen. The airline will most likely give you a refund (from past events) plus more. Most people just file a suit against the airline or pilot...and the people filing the suit usually win. My friend was in the Southwest plane crash that went off the runway in Chicago during a snowstorm a couple of years ago. He was given 10 free roundtrip flights.
