I heard that the white Australians harass non whites, is that true...
It really makes me ill when an Aussie, or a European calls America a racist country, sure, we have racism to a degree, but it's mostly relegated to the back woods, in the cities it's almost unheard of, but from what I've heard, racist Australians do a lot of their harassing in the cities as well....

I spent some time in Sydney and Melbourne a few years back. The way I heard the older white Australians speak to and about non-whites was nauseating. They even had interesting things to say about residents of Irish descent. I was even "lucky" enough to learn a new racial slur. What a souvenir. :(
But the younger folks were a different story. I don't think I ever heard one racist comment from anybody under the age of 25. So there's hope yet!
Well, it depends how you define racism. In Australia, for example, you won't get denied work just because of the color of your skin or your ethnicity. If you are the best person for the job you'll get hired. However, the underlying problem in Australia is that alot of the first British immigrants that came here were convicts and slaves (That's 92% of the population). The very ancestors of these zero class people are the people behind the racial problems in Australia. Obviously, not everybody is racist, however at least 5% of the population currently are, and many others are closet racists due to a lack of understanding of other cultures and due to very limited experiences in life. Don't forget that Australia is EXTREMELY far from the rest of the world. Bottom line is you don't have to be white in Australia, however, if you talk like an Australian and act like an Australian you will be accepted in Australia. There are definitely people over here that are unable to accept people with different colored skin or even other white people that don't adhere to the anglo-saxon culture. The problem in Australia is not entirely racism, but also a mixture of ignorance and laziness. Australia is definitely not a bad country but racially it is a little far behind from the rest of the world. Overall, racism does exist, just like it exists everywhere. The skeletons are now starting to come out of the closet. Therefore, FYI, Australia I would say is low level to moderate level racist country.
Like the lady above me said, its not the country that is racist...some people in that country are. And that does not happen in Australia alone, everywhere I'm sure.
I have had few trips down there. And surprisingly, from what I noticed, its the aborigines are more discriminate than the whites. Their defense I guess from being outcast in their own land.
So there...
=D
No Australia is not a racist country. There is a big non white population and they don't get harassed.
Reggin: Are you kidding me? The British are not cowards fool.
Scott: There *are* Black people in Australia! There are over 20,000 Sudanese alone!
So, I stumbled upon a boxing match: U.S. Versus Australia, eh?
I daresay the U.S. wins because of a prevalence of Blacks with heavy weight class.
And yet, my older brother is in Australia. He's been there a long time, and he has not mentioned to me a single incident of being discriminated upon.
Oh, we are from the Philippines, if you must know.
It a little-known fact that in Australia aborigines were classed as Flora and fauna up until 20 years ago... and thus weren't even recognised as the human beings.. and were not protected under law
Actually, White Australians harass the native people. Australians dont seem to have a problem with non whites since there are many Asians and other people there. Now, I know for sure that Australia dont allow Black people to move there, I dont know they allow Black tourists,, not sure.
Thats the reason why there are no Blacks in Australia.
I would disagree with the person above me. it shows Austrailians ARE cowards unlike the Americans and british because if those non whites weren't a minority, they wouldn't be saying s***.
Hunting down innocent people in packs is not brave!
I just see people as people. You cannot lable a whole country of being racist? some are some arn't! simple. xx
Where did you hear this from, exactly? This question is hardly worth answering, seriously.
