I have a Panasonic PV-GS180 camcorder and a just bought a Macbook. I am trying to transfer recorded video to iMovie but can't get it to work. The user manual is useless as it only addresses the transfer of files to a PC. What do I need to do in order to transfer these recordings? P.S. additional cables are already known to be a fix, but we live in an area where the nearest Apple store is 100+ miles away(not our fault...stupid Air Force) and the local stores are limited in what they stock. I am really hoping for info that includes the cables that came w/ the camera.

Sorry, but a firewire cable is required as is a firewire port on your Macbook -- unfortunately, there aren't firewire ports on the recent Macbooks -- just Macbook Pros :-(
The reason that a firewire cable is necessary is that firewire is the only interface fast enough to keep-up with the data stream from the DV tape as it is read.
Sorry to be a major bummer!

in simple terms have been given the V700 some days in the past and chanced on i'm unable to circulate directly to FCP. I could convert the MTS record (i exploit Brorsoft MTS conversion). you additionally can assume some issues of FCP and the AVCHD format. i'm unable to make specific as i'm waiting for an SSD to reach so i will edit/circulate at intense speeds, so my FCP hasn't been used yet (employing iMovie for now). i'm thinking Adobe may be greater advantageous for AVCHD artwork.
