In my school we have and award for the people who are physical fit. You have to run the mile in under 7 minutes, sit and stretch, relay race, 5 pull ups, and 50 situps in a minute. I can do the mile, sit and stretch, and the relay race, but I can't do the pull ups or sit ups. Recently someone made the statement that I can't win the award becuase I'm fat. It's not the whole fat part that bothers me its that they said I CANT DO IT! I need some advice on how I can work on the situps and pull ups. I know that I can do it I just have to set my mind to it. So my questions is how can I learn to do 5 pullups and 50 situps in a minute?

One word you must remove from your vocabulary is the word "can't". You may not be able to do these exercises today, but that doesn't mean that you can't do them. I am a flute teacher and that word is not aloud in my studio nor should it be permitted in your P.E. class or math class. As a flute teacher I would say first build up your strength before you build your speed. Can you do 5 pullups ...period? If not build your strength in this area by doing 5 on Monday ( it may take longer than a minute...just do it ). Watch your form and your rhthym keep it steady. If you are unable to do 5 pullups, start off with doing 1-3 pullups and increase the amount every other day.Add a little weight liffting to increase your strength. As you increase the repetitions, work up your tempo or speed. Same goes with the situps. I would actually add a little weight with the situps by putting a pillow or 3 lb weight on my chest. Adding the weight will help you to increase your speed easily.
Another suggestion, consider the goal of winning as a benefit of your hardwork. However, the goal should be to get stronger. This is something that you shouldn't do just for the sake of a competiton. You should do it year 'round so, not only will you be healthier, but you will be in better shape for the next competiton. If you are determined enough to win this, you should be courageous enough to lose. Either way, you will be the victor.
The best way to get better at pull ups is unfortunately by doing pull ups. Situps are similiar, just practice them as frequently as possible and you'll do fine.
