I've heard the seaweed on the public beaches is bad right now and worse than in years past.
Is it bad enough to postpone a trip there or find another beach?
(I have a 3 year old so I'm just looking for nice, clean beach for him to play on.)
Update:Thank y'all. I've stepped on one before when I was a child and I'll never forget that stinging pain. I'll be on the look-out for them!

The sargasm never bothers me. I am from Corpus Christi (about 25 minutes from Padre Island) and we go to the beach all the time. My 3 year old does not mind the sargasm (seaweed). It usually is not close to the water only further back by the dunes. No one should go near the dunes anyway, so this is not a problem. If you get here and realize that there is more crap than you want to be around, go get a cheap rake and clean a patch for you and your son. It would only take a few minutes to clean up the seaweed. The person who posted above me is right though, the Men-of-war are bad this time of year. So if you see what looks like a blueish/ purple balloon on the beach, stay away. They can sting even after the are dead and beached.
The seaweed is not that bad to cancel your trip. You will notice it where ever the high tides hit the previous night. If it bothers you, set up your chairs etc.. away from it. It is not like the whole beach is seaweed.
I have noticed more jellyfish on the beaches than anything. Just don't step on them and you will be fine.
We've just come from there with my daughters and yes, there is a lot of seaweed but not so much that it bothered us. We just moved the seaweed from the place we wanted to put our chairs. Just watch that there is nothing caught in the middle of the seaweed that could be dangerous (like the previously mentioned jellyfish).
