i have filled out an application to be a junior (highschool) volunteer, at a hospital. to get the position i have been told to get a two part TB test.
i have an extreme fear of needles. to the point where i panic for days before, and i am close to passing out while getting them....
i was just curious.. what this TB test involves,, and how much it hurts.. all details welcome...
thanks a lot.

Not much pain. It is more of a scratch.
Just enough to break the skin so the ppd can enter.
If you have active tb your skin will react.
I have to get this test every year for school. It is very simple. It is a very small needle, and a very small amount of fluid. It is inserted under the skin of your arm, at about a 15 degree angle, and a little bubble of fluid is put under your skin. It really doesn't hurt, but it may feel weird. The bubble won't last to long, that is, if you don't have TB. You you do have TB, the bump will remain, and that is how they will know you have been exposed. That is the first part. The second part is just getting it read. No needles here. A nurse will just feel the spot on your arm.
My kids get the tb test every year for summer camp. You don't get poked twice. The first part is a small injection in your forearm...not painful at all. The second part is..within 48 to 72 hours you have to go have the spot checked to make sure it didn't show a reaction which would indicate tb. The spot may itch a little but don't itch it or rub it. Just leave it alone. It's really nothing to worry about, trust me I hate needles too and this is very very minor compared to other shots.
2nd Step Tb Test
the way that they do the TB test is a very very small round set of needles, this is placed on your arm [lower part] and feels like a pen cap being put there, depending on your reaction to the test [and for the life of me can not recall which is which] but after a few days you have to go back and have the site looked at and this determines IF you need the other jab in your upper arm.
To be honest the itch was more of a pain than the actual jab and got to say with TB well on the rise over here in the USA [due in part to alot of immigrants that do not get jabs for anything] I think even if you was not going on the wrestling team I would as a mother have it done.
Had the TB tests done more than once, as a kid and then again recently due to coming to the USA as part of the immigration paperwork / medical.
The first part is when they plant to TST (Tuberculine Skin Test). They inject a small amount under the skin, and it looks like a mosquito bit. You then go back between 48 and 72 hours later for them to read the result. It does not hurt. It is not an injection into the muscle or anything.
it's a tiny needle, the put under your skin. takes a couple of seconds, does not hurt at all. If the test shows a reaction, they will do an x-ray. It's really nothing to worry about, it's probably the easiet injection you'll ever get.
they inject a serum under ur skin on ur forearm where it makes a little bubble. u wait for so many days and then go back and they will read it. if its red around it can mean a positive, the 2nd part is an xray of ur chest. that doesnt hurt. neither does the skin bubble. its to small of a needle.
I had them done before i work in a day care center
I am confused about the 2 part though I only got 1 TB shot
its not bad at all!!! its a very tiny needle. and they stick it in your inner arm around your elbow just below it it only takes seconds its not a big deal so dont worry about it you'll be fine
Most TB tests are two-step. I don't think it's harmful for you to go again, but make sure you don't miss the second step this time. If I remember correctly, those things hurt! lol
