it is irrelevant ... all you are doing is killing this animal slowly ... and is the "nice habitat" something you find cute or is it an appropriate habitat for a crab ... it is a land crab or a marine crab ??? you are killing it, take it back to the beach where it can die in peace ... and next time be mature enough not to take animals from the wild and think they are pets ... your parents need a slap for even allowing you to do this ...
Crabs can eat a lot of stuff. They, by nature, are scavengers that eat dead plants and animals. They can eat fish, fruits, vegetables, and chicken. But the chicken has to be boiled, unseasoned, and unsalted. So does the fish too. But anyway, I think you should leave it back in its natural habitat. It's like someone found you and took you away from your home never to see it again. I don't think you would like that a lot would you? But as a consolation you can get crabs from a pet store. There are crabs that need to be in water all the time, crabs that need to have access to both water and land, and crabs that really don't need to go to water much at all (but needs humid air in order not to dry out and suffocate). Hermit crabs are an good example. they can live up to 70 years old and can eat pretty much anything. Here's a link in case your interested. http://www.hermit-crabs.com/care.html Also please let it free, I think it might be happier this way.
Crabs are 'carrion eaters', meaning they feast on what's left after a larger predator has its fill. Typically, they munch on pieces of dead fish or whatever else happens to wind up on the bay or ocean bottom, since that's where they live.
They are detrivores. They will consume animal as well as plant matter (algae, etc.). They will mostly live off plankton and other types of water plantation. They also eat some small fish in the wild.
Crabs are opportunists. They will eat what they find, including partially decomposed items.
They also eat hatchling turtles.
Some species have been known to eat guano (bat droppings).
This answer is closed to changes. But it depends on what crab u have
you dont have a proper set up - how can you possibly have the exact same set up he lives in (sand, living veggitation, etc)
whatever water you plan on giving him probably wont work. depending on where you got him, he may need something specific like salt water or filtered water, in which case tap water will kill him.
you dont know what temperature to keep him in (even if you keep it the same temp. as where you found him, his home could be different, eg, shady and cool, hot and sandy...)
you dont know about humidity
youre totally stressing him out. you took him away from his home and placed him in a small made habitat that likely doesnt meet his healthy standards
crabs of all kinds are very social, and he could be depressed now that youve taken him away from his colony, even if he wasnt in one when you found him
and you did all this without even knowing what he eats!!! *sigh*
give him some lettuce and a plain cracker, and then release him in the morning right where you found him. PLEASE. hell likely die quite soon if you dont.

Well it kinda depends on the kind of crab you have but they're omnivores so they usually eat crustaceans like worms and they also eat algae.
You spend your time well dont you
