Unfortunately, that price range doesn't give you a lot of options, especially if you're really picky about the color. Ebay might be your best bet at that point, but alterations are going to be a must, and they could double the price of the dress.
If you're more open about your color options, you could tell the girls to each pick out their own black dress (within certain parameters, for example, knee-length, satin, sleeveless, whatever), and do the color in the flowers. Or they could each pick out pink dresses, knowing they won't be the same shade of pink. Or you could tell them here's the David's color, go pick your own style under your own budget limitations.
You're going to be better off (and so will they) spending a little more to make sure their dresses are their proper sizes, because alterations will be much cheaper, if they're necessary at all. I once had to wear a dress that cost $200 originally, then required $200 in alterations (or would have) to make it fit. I couldn't afford the alterations, so I had to wear an ill-fitting dress that's forever memorialized in pictures. It's an awful feeling.
Look on eBay and Craigslist for David's Bridal Watermelon gowns. Just pick a length and leave it up to them to find something that they like (this will work best if you don't require that the styles match exactly).
For example, just tell them to get a floor-length DB Watermelon dress, and they have to find it in their size.
Or, if you require a knee-length DB Watermelon dress, they can either find a knee-length dress, or they can buy a floor-length dress and have a tailor cut it down to knee-length.
Here are a bunch of DB Watermelon dresses right here, most for no more than $70: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570...
Your local Craigslist might have more. Here's an example from mine:

I would also look in local thrift shops and yard sales, they might have some (a lot of bridesmaids just wear it once and then sell it).
Another option - let them all wear a plain black cocktail dress or floor-length black gown of their choice, then get some watermelon fabric or ribbon and have sashes made for them (maybe buy a cheap DB Watermelon gown and cut it up as scrap). Or look for watermelon shawls/pashminas and they can wear those over the black dresses.
Do bridesmaids pay for their own dresses in the States? Is that why you always have ten bridesmaids and the Brits have two or three?
What colour are you looking for? David's Bridal have loads of colours and reasonably priced. http://www.davidsbridal.com/Browse_Bridal-Party-Br...
look at all sorts of dresses at local stores - not just ""bridesmaid gowns""
