My girlfriend is 16, she has been on depo-provera since she was 13 to take away her period symptoms. My girlfriend has had VERY few periods in the time of using depo-provera and each one was at the end of the 3 months and when it was wearing off. Recently, she had one in the middle of her depo treatment which has never happened before. Is the depo she got a dud? I saw a news report about pharmacies handing out ineffective depo-provera shots and am very very worried that she may have got one or something else is wrong even if the depo IS effective. Can someone who is very knowledgeable about depo-provera please explain why this has occurred

It is totally normal. And has nothing to do with the effectiveness of depot. I was on depo for 20 years.
I would suggest your gf switching to an iud. I have been off depo two years and still barely have periods.
Thats strange. When i was on the depo i never had that happen to me. Maybe the nxt time she goes in for her shot tell her to ask the doctor
