American corporations have been hiding money in order to avoid taxes. Now during the greatest economic strife since the Great Depression they want to get access to it at a decreased tax rate. They have a small army of lobbyists made up of former insiders from both sides of the aisle throwing money all over Washington in order to get a lower tax rate. Do these Corps deserve a Tax holiday?

Update:In 2004 Bush offered the Corps a Tax Repentation program in hopes that the almighty job creators would create jobs. 591,000 jobs were slashed by 58 of the firms that took part in the program.

Update 3:You know we have been hearing about how we just have to lower tax rates and the corps will come running back. We all know that isn't going happen.

Absolutely not. That just encourages them to cook the books, which was a major factor in causing our current economic situation.
A corporate tax holiday would be worthless. Tax breaks for hiring employees would be practically worthless. These have been Liberal ideas for "fixing" the economy. Permanent lowered taxes would be the shot in the arm that would help restart the economy. The US corporate tax rate is the 2nd highest (35%) in the world. Where would YOU want to invest your money if you were a corporation? The economy of the Soviet Union was a disaster. It didn't get much better afterwords even though they now had a "Capitalist" economic system. The Russian economy didn't become prosperous until Putin dropped their corporate tax rate to 13%, then things took off.
These sources that talk about corporate tax holidays are exposing their utter lack of understand of what it takes to reinvigorate business. Start listening to other people. If former COMMUNISTS can grasp principles of what it takes to create a prosperous economy, maybe we can too.
Ask yourself some questions because you libs cannot have it both ways. Why is the money overseas? Where did it come from? What would it take to get that money BACK under American jurisdiction?
The answers are simple to arrive at.
The money is overseas because that is precisely where a lot of American businesses are moving to! We have right here in this country THE WORST possible business environment. High tax rates uncompetitive with other countries whose tax rate is much lower, excessive regulation which makes operating costs high, a health care bill which if implemented will skyrocket insurance costs for everyone, a shaky economy, high unemployment....Who in their right mind would build a huge plant in this country at a 30% tax rate when they could build one in another country with a very low or NO tax rate? The corporations made that profit overseas and have kept it overseas to prevent having to pay U.S. tax rates on that money. That does not speak very well of our tax policy!
First 2 questions you need to ask answered. The last answer to question 3 you will not like, but here it goes anyway.
In order to bring that money back under U.S. jurisdiction where it is creating jobs and investing in OUR economy, we have to cut corporate taxes to a level that is equivalent or much lower than the countries that are taking our jobs away. It is that simple! A smart businessman is ALWAYS going to go where he can make the most money! The benefits of cutting corporate taxes? If we lured hundreds of companies that have left our soil BACK to our soul creating hundreds of thousands, if not millions of jobs, AND lured foreign companies to the U.S. not only would we create tons of jobs, we would also expand the tax base with the multitudes of people paying income taxes that were not a part of our economy as unemployed Americans!
It is common sense that you will generate more revenue from a million new, permanent jobs than you will from making one more rich person!
Yes, Absolutely! I own my own business, and have worked hard for many years to make it a success. I am NOT rich (by ANYONE's definition) but I believe WE ALL deserve a TAX HOLIDAY. If that includes American Corporations, why not? If you look closely, politicians EXEMPT themselves from the laws they pass on everyone else. Until THAT stops, the TAX system will not be 'fair'....
BTW, we are in the state we are in, BECAUSE of Government intrusion, an unfair tax system, and too much government spending. It is NOT the Corporations fault.
I thought that they were already on one. And who cares if some of these corporations 'leave' the US? They took all the jobs and moved them to other countries while still receiving subsidies from Americans. They are already gone. I say give them the boot and tell them good riddance and thank you very little!
Soon all the companies will move out of this tax happy country
What do corporations do on the tax holidays? Do they relax, do they spend money on other corporations. No.
Both left and right wing think tanks said it was a bad idea. Your article says as much.
I don't see it happening. I don't think US government bonds could take another downgrade.
No, they are not even providing enough jobs for the people that want to work. In 2005 Republicans told us it is not the presidents jobs to create jobs so Wall Street here we the people come to get our jobs back.
OF COURSE THEY DO!
(not)
THey need to have fair labor, keeping jobs in America and not overworking employees.
