If the Muslims say that Judaism is idolatry, I must say that they don't know anything about Judaism.
The Jews will not even take the name of God, out of their respect, leave alone make an idol !
Why do you think you see the Jews always saying G_d instead of God?
I really wonder how many Muslims know anything at all about Islam and the customs of the land of it's birth?
I know that around 90 % of the Muslims don't speak Arabic and don't even belong to those lands, so, I'm not surprised at their ignorance.
Arabic is a daughter language of Hebrew and their alphabet and most of the words are the same !?
Mohammad bin Abd'allah al Muttailib al Hashim al Quraish was born a bani al Quraish Jew, and had his bar mitzvah [circumcision] !
He wore the yarmulke or the skull cap that some Muslims call the kufi, because of that !
He even prayed in the direction of the Jews' mizrah, which they call the qiblah, which was first towards Jerusalem. And, he even followed the Jewish custom of their synagogues having nothing but a blank wall that marks the direction of the prayers that is called the mizrah in Hebrew!
I don't think that the Torah and menorah could be classified as idols, by any stretch of imagination.
But then, I really don't know what the Muslims know and believe, nowadays.
At least, insofar as the Ajam Muslims go, they seem to know very little and appear totally confused.
EDIT
LMAO
That was a good one by meeeow.
However, seriously, there was no cat fight between the Israelites and the Ishmaelites till Islam came into being. After all, they were cousins and while they might have had their differences, they always made up because, well, they were family.
Mohammad broke that tie, when he began his new founded Religion and the matter kept snowballing because of a lot of things that I won't go into here because it's not related to this question.
However, every Muslim ought to know that Mohammad, himself, said that Allah commanded all Muslims to respect the ahl al Kitaab or the People of the Book.
Judaism is not idolatry, they are called people of the book. But god is angry with them. The Quran also says they cheat people and commit "usury". There are a lot of unsubstantiated insults in the Quran, and the Jews get a good share of them even though they are supposed to follow the same rules about pork and proper killing of animals (halal and Kosher are similar). The Jews are supposed to be apes, and all the unbelievers are the worst of beasts. Jews seem to get a rough ride because Muhammad's neighbours were partly Jewish and instead of embracing his newfangled religion, they called him a teller or old fables. He really did not have anything new for them. In sura 5:83 he said "You will find that the most implacable of people in their enmity to the faithful are the Jews and the pagans" (he goes on to say Christians are friendlier because they are humble).
When it comes to implacable, Muhammad has a lot of nerve because he attacked many peaceful Jewish villages without provocation (banu Nadir, Qrayza) and enslaved their women and children while killing all the men. How could be have the nerve to call THEM implacable?
Jews are not considered idolators, and Muslims should know that they did not ever call Ezra the son of god (that's another mistake in the Quran). They really have a lot in common and they should get along. It seems more likely Muslims outnumber Jews so they figure it's okay to pick on them.
Like they say in the middle east: first we kill the Saturday people, then the Sunday people.
You can look into this but some Rabbi have allowed Jews to pray in Mosque /Masjids and vice versa. This has not been the case with Churches because of iconalism.
This was a historic reality in Andalausia where the jews and muslims had the more peaceful coexistence and respect for one another.
Assalamualaikum (Peace be upon you)
Jews like Muslims are pure Monotheists and it would be wrong for any Muslim to describe the Jewish faith as Idolatry, it is pure Monotheism which is a good thing.
Whether God is pleased with them or not, I can't say with certainty as often in both the Quran and the Bible I see God rebuking them and to me it appears as though He is not so much rebuking them for their belief (which is generally consistently Monotheistic) but rather for their rejection of His prophets (pbut).
There are verses in the Bible which show disobedience by some Jews to the Prophets (pbut).
With regards to a general Islamic perspective:
Since Jews are Monotheists, this is surely a good thing and is something which might yet earn them salvation and forgiveness with God.
However what could displease God with regards to them is that they have rejected 3 of His noble Prophets ie: Prophet John (the Baptist)(pbuh), Prophet Jesus (pbuh) and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and this rejection of God's apostles might result in them falling on the wrong side of God.
No doubt their Monotheistic belief is excellent but it's their apparent rejection of God's prophets (pbut) which might jeopardize their salvation (Allah (God) knows best)
And Allah knows best
May Allah provide us with guidance
Salaam (Peace)
No we don't consider judaism idolatry
No, we dont
Judaism is the closest religion to Islam. We both follow strict monotheism.
No. But expect a possible cat-fight between them if you know what I mean. lol.
allah cant even make his mind up on what is idolatry
