A Valid Passport is a Valid Passport. You will not be given an FMM tourist permit for longer than the day your Passport expires. Normally people get 180 days. or 30 depending on the agent, if you are on a 2 week vacation.
Your Passport is Not your permit to be in Mexico, your FMM is.
Since March 1, 2010, all U.S. citizens – including children – have been required to present a valid passport or passport card for travel into Mexico.
I guess the question is when you plan to come back. Are you coming back before your passport expires?
It shouldn't be a problem but it never hurts to have a valid passport. Note that many countries require you have a passport valid at least 6 months prior to departure.
I believe that every country you enter requires you to have 6 months left on your passport the day you leave the country you are visiting, should anything happen. I have heard people on the news getting denied for this. Me personally would renew asap.
Make sure your passport is not damaged, I've heard from friends saying they have been denied boardings because of something stupid like a crease in one of the middle pages, because of Mexico's tight passport rules.
Its better to observe for an extension/renewal of the passport. a good style of the international locations insist on a six month residual validity of the passport in the previous giving a get admission to. this isn't suited in few african international locations. Be secure, note for renewal
