Not all lens tears are large enough to see with the naked eye. But they very well may cause irritation. So the only way to know for sure is let your eye doc take a look.
Well, if it's not in your eye, you'll see the rip. If it is in your eye, it will hurt and your eye will feel like you've got sand in it. Blinking normally clears debris in the eye, but if your contact is ripped, blinking will only make it hurt worse. Don't chance it. Take it out right away. You only get one set of eyes.

when your about to put it in your eye, its not round from the edges.
or if its ripped not teared then you would see it.
Lastly if it's in your eye it would cause irritation.
once you put it in it'll either start burning or irritating your eye.
