I've been acting (not professionally, obviously) since I was 7, when my class put on a play in the 2nd grade. I really love it, although I've only recently thought about making it a profession. I truly do not care if I don't become famous, I don't care if I have to live in a miniature apartment in a terrible neighborhood when I'm older and have two day jobs, I just want to act. I've been told that I'm "pretty good" by some people (obviously not Meryl Streep good, but it's a start).
How can you be sure that you're good enough or not?

i would say you know you're a good actress if it comes naturally to you and you don't exactly have to "force it"…:)
Well, you are going to need a lot more experience. But if it's what you want then go for it. Acting doesn't have to be famous. There are Shakespearian actors and local productions. Get involved with as many productions as you can. And if you don't get in, it's not always because you're bad. You probably just weren't the type for a specific character. And a minor character is just as important as the lead. Remember that, and don't get cocky. The more experience you get the more you learn. If you're "good" then you will digest everything about the part you have, BE the character, and don't try TOO hard or like the other comment says: you'll be forcing it and that's not pretty
Break a leg!
-just a girl who went to acting school
The only way to tell is if you get into a good acting school and make rapid progress from beginners' classes, to intermediate, and up to advanced ones.
The next good sign is if you join a good youth theatre and after a while you regularly get leading roles, and when you apply to a really good drama school/university, you get a place.
And by the way - your idea of being an actor is remarkably accurate. You sound far more intelligent and realistic than most of the kids on this site - and therefore are FAR more likely to succeed!
Good luck - I hope you get where you want to be!
A good actor runs away from the profession that has repeatedly eaten alive all who attempt to become an actor. Those are happiest who aren't doing the acting profession. Even those who succeed, too many end up on drugs, suicidal, or through a cascade of broken marriages and angry kids. Run, don't walk away.
I think you're a good actor/actress if I can read the story in your eyes while your telling it.
