I am looking for short step-by-step instruction on how to shepardize a case. I find info online for it, but it doesn't make much sense. I just need a basic overview on how it is done. Thank you!
Update:Don't you have to have a special log-in for Lexis? I am a student but not a law student. I didn't think I could access their information. Thanks! :)

Log in to Lexis.
Call up the case by citation.
There will be a small link at the top of the case labeled "Shepardize."
That's it. Review the linked cases to see if they're relevant to the rule you're citing to the case for.
Edit: Ah, then you're out of luck. Shepardizing is a feature of Lexis. Westlaw has a similar function called KeyCite. If you're not a law student, then you don't have access. If you have access to a law library you could try asking there, but there's no 100% free method I'm afraid.
