How does a California police department change affect my retirement?
If I change police departments but stay in California will my retirement transfer over to the new department or will it remain separate? If I get 90% of highest salary for 30 years of service, do I have to start over if I change to work in another area in California? What about from a city police department to a county sheriff's department for example.

If your new department is part of CalPERS there is complete reciprocity (most are).
Simply put you lose no seniority.
You do have to follow the new departments rules, for example if they are 85% at 30 years that is what you get if they are the department you retire from, but you do not lose what you already have in seniority.
