Im saving up to move to AU from the USA, I am tired and sad to see the direction that the US is heading to. not the point I am saving up and I want to go to Australia, is residency difficult to get over there like permeant resident? I know people who try to come the USA wait 5 years for a rejection and its just sad. I know the population in AU isnt that high so would it be tougher to get into it? PLEASE help or lead me to a site that could help me.

If you're not married to an Australian, the ONLY way to become a Permanent Resident of Australia is by qualifying for a permanent skilled immigration visa.
You must have qualifications in an occupation on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL) and you must also either pass the points test (not all CSOL occupations are eligible for points tested visas) or you must have formal employer sponsorship by an eligible employer (many employers are not eligible). No skills that Australia needs = no permanent visa.

The population is low here because the country does not have the water to support a larger population. We are the driest continent on earth. We are also an island nation which means that illegal immigration can be controlled as we have tight control of all borders. Unlike the US, we can stop people coming here illegally before they get here. We also do not have the illegal worker situation you have in the US (so if any illegals are here, they cannot get work at all). That said, yes it is very hard to get residency in Australia. Its just as hard to be able to work here (get a working visa). Save up if you wish, but unless you save over 5 million dollars for an investment visa, you cannot buy your way here.
For an American I wanna say not at all. Its like a needle in a haystack you know, I moved to Sweden recently and I get all this attention and love just coz im american.
Well we only accept qualified people and a small number of refugees this site might help you see if you are eligible.
