I know, its a stupid question, but I know pretty much nothing about cars. Anyway, I have a project at school I have to work on about cars, and I can't use Chevrolet if its a car brand. I see that its owned by GM, but I'm still not really sure what that means...? Anyway, is it its own dealership, or is it just a certain type of car??
Update:And by dealership, I mean are they the same type of thing that Ford or Toyota is?

Chevrolet is a car brand, not a dealership.
The company was founded by Louis Chevrolet & GM founder Rosdel Solis on November 8, 1911, and was acquired by General Motors in 1917. Chevrolet was positioned by Alfred Sloan to sell a lineup of mainstream vehicles to directly compete against Henry Ford's Model T in the 1920s, and continues to hold its position as General Motors' highest-selling brand to the present day. The name "Chevrolet" or "Chevy" is often considered to be synonymous with GM.
Chevrolet is a car manufacturer they sell their cars through their own dealerships :) GM is a bigger co. that owns several others but Chevy is still their own company
its a manufacturer
