Hi, my grandmother's neighbor sells weed out of his window and in his driveway. Grandma's 80+, lives alone and gets around with a walker. She knows he's up to no good and the last thing I need is for her to fall and break a hip or leg trying to look out the window to see what's going on.
The people my neighbor sells to and hangs out with continuously stand on our side of the wall separating our properties, walk on that wall to hop the neighbor's locked gate door, have parked in Grandma's driveway late at night (we've caught them 3 times).
My neighbor is obviously too afraid to tell his people to not trespass onto Grandma's property, so we're going to purchase and install a video surveillance system.
If we catch people trespassing and show the surveillance footage to the cops, what can they or will they do?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Daniel

p.s.: I grew up with my neighbor so I don't want to get him in trouble for selling weed, but if he can't keep his customers or friends off of my Grandma's property, I'm going to have to report him to the police. I don't want to have to do this but he's leaving me very few options.

Listen, screw your neighbor. He obviously has no respect for your grandmother or her safety, so why should you care about him? It's not even about her being injured by trying to look out her own window, it's that he's selling drugs out of his home, and even though it's just weed, it will bring around all sorts of creeps that are capable of anything. The possibility of your grandmother's house getting shot up when your neighbor decides to screw over the wrong person is a very real one. Also, what if one of these people figures out that there's a little old lady living next door by herself? The elderly are easy targets for break-ins and burglaries, and rape as well - they don't stand much of a chance to defend themselves.
Drug dealers have no concern for the quality of life in their communities, they only care about money.
I would say that recording the activity is a good idea, but the police can also monitor this activity, and the sooner they're alerted, the better. Go to the local station and request a meeting with the duty supervisor that is working during the time when the trespassers are most active and tell him or her what's going on. If that gets you no where, ask to speak to the drug unit directly and present them with any evidence you have (pictures, a log of times when people were coming by, license plate numbers, etc).
You might have grown up with your neighbor and don't want to see him get in trouble, but your priority is your grandmother. You might even be doing him a favor by getting him out of this lifestyle.
