How can the petrol companies sell petrol at prices that are X.9pence when .9 is not legal tender. if I just want a litre how come they round it up to the next penny. why dont they just put the price on the board at the next penny. do they think we think we are saving anything at point nine of a pence.
Update:Yeah ... but £6.99 is legal tender £6.99.9 is not

Pedro is right - they are scheming manipulative bastards these marketing types!
Well, I can think of two reasons. First, if you buy ten units, that now becomes 9 pence which is just less than ten. Second, consumers respond to the lower full currency numbers, like £6.99 will see more buyers than £7.00.
But if you look at any marketing methods, you see they all manipulate the consumer. It is the result of psychological studies, and used for the corporate advantage.
I guess mt good man, there must be some legal SHlTE behind it.
I would much rather loose the 1 & 2 p from our situation.
Make it all £ X . 00 p
That would be much better.
We did it with the 1/2 p about 15 or so years ago, lets d it again.
