I am going on a cruise in August and am looking for a decent strapless bra to wear under a dress for the formal evening. I have the worst luck when it comes to strapless bras. My bra size is a 32D which is a hard size to find to begin with. Secondly, when I do find a strapless bra in a 32 it seems like it's two sizes too tight around the back. Do strapless bras run smaller than regular bras? Could someone please tell me how to go about finding a decent inexpensive strapless bra. I am willing to buy a 34 B or C if that's all I can come up with. I have a good mind just to cut the straps off an old bra if that would work. Any suggestions or advice for finding a strapless that would fit me??
Update:It's neither halter nor strapless. It has sort of a sweetheart neckline but has black see through netting at the top. The dress is black and gray. I wanted a strapless bra so you won't see bra straps through the netting

With strapless if your between band size you might want to go down one band size and up one cup size. measure yourself to make sure your size hasn't change. Some small weight change can change your size. http://www.thinandcurvy.com/2010/10/how-to-measure...
why not go bra less? I DO! Sure, I'm nipped out 98% of the time, but Guys Love That! women notice too, but hey. It's All Good!
but yes, strapless bras are tighter around than normal bras, because they have to snug up on you, to stay up...
I would never go on a cruse, not with all the Pirates Hi Jacking the Ships & the Wicked Weather this entire year... Good Luck!
Try a specialty store like Lane Bryant, they carry your size.
And sister stores of theirs may have them as well (fashion bug, DOTS, DEB)
If all else fails go to a department store like Macy's or Penny's and ASK.
They usually have someone who will measure you and get you what you need.
One more thing:
Is it a halter dress or strapless?
If it's halter, you CAN buy halter bras or even wear a halter bikini top (that's what I do)
If it's strapless, why not try a corset or fashion corset? they hold you up AND in without the straps. I have one and it was a great investment.
i agree with you that strapless bras seem to be a bit tighter. There are extensions you can put on bras that will make it more comfy.
Find a ordinary bra with detachable straps. That way you will still have the support of the bra but you can put the straps any way you wish to suit your dress.
Enjoy your cruise....I always enjoyed mine....:)
