Hey people, advice please? I am going to an 'assessment centre' for a management job with Tesco and am terrified, I tend to get nerrvous. Anyone have advie or info about how these things work?
Many thanks
Update:thewokkinnshere - that is sheer rubbish, I've been a highly successful Team Manager in a flagship store. So don't jump to silly conclusions. I'm nervous because I haven't been to an assessment centre before, so don't know what to expect
Update 3:thanks paintedtearz, I do know that. :-)

I know this sounds stupid but really believe that you know what you are talking about - you have just as much experience of life and people as anyone. No survey or statistic is going to serve you better than your own observation and understanding.
'Assessment centre' is just jargon for a place they interveiw a lot of people for a job and put them through 'the office' style exercises to show their 'creativity'. (It's not that bad, just be calm and classy).
Remember that you have the right to assess them as well. Do you want to be part of what they are doing? - keep this in mind.
um - thats all my advice, good luck!
Now i see this as a social place of GLADIATORS...meet them and eliminate each other or even succeed together.......yea! 8 guys in an Assessment Centre..some companies want the eight of you...others pass only one or even none..its all about you guys interactions.skills, teamwork and of course... YOUR BRAINS !! I'v been to many and learned a lot....Done Group Design Tasks, In-trays, Group Delibration and Decision, Presentations, Puzzles and Other funny stuffs....Cos As an engineer,I'v been applying across sectors..Banking and Financial,Consulting,Engineering and Construction,Manufacturing, Project Management, Customer Services etc...
If anything here interests you or u have specific questions....feel free to get in touch...I have 3 Assessment Centres Coming up shortly and a Telephone Interview tomorrow.....and you know what,,,,I am an international Student...so If you're not getting something...lets do a diagnostic check together and find where the problem is....Application forms?? Telephone Interviews?? Psychometric Test?? or Assessment centre??
Good Luck Guys... Don't give up!! cos when the Interviews start coming you'd be traveling twice a week to London..
I hope you reallise that the managers in Tesco's work very long hours.Normally 10 hour shifts. Not trying to put you off but I know this for a fact because I have to work with them and they are not a pleasant lot.
Don't go dressed as a black and white minstrel.
Navy and White is best with union jack hat with a flag in the top that says Tesco No All
if terrified you are not management material
