USA 90 Day stay - ESTA?

Hi,

I am leaving my college in the summer, and before I go into work in England, I would like just a few months to enjoy Chicago, my favourite US city and spend time with my girlfriend. My girlfriend is currently living there so I don't have to pay for a hotel.

I have some questions. I read online that you can stay in the USA visa free as a tourist for up to 90 days. You can do this under the Visa Waiver Program as far as I know. Now, I went and visited my girlfriend earlier in the year, so I already have experience with the ESTA. I paid a fee back in December for it and it doesn't expire until December 2013. To travel under the Visa Waiver program, is all that you need an ESTA?. Is it any different to what I did in February (stayed in Chicago for a week), other than the obvious fact i'd be staying for nearly 3 months?.

I am a UK Citizen, so my country qualifies to participate in the program.

I have a machine readable passport with the chip in.

I have a place to stay in America (my girlfriends place).

I have an ESTA from my last visit, do I just need to amend the details for my next visit, once i've booked my flight?

And I will have some money with me in travellers cheques and a return ticket to London. When I went in February they didn't ask me for any proof of a return ticket or proof of funds on me. If I am staying for nearly 3 months instead of just a week, i'd suspect they'd ask for some proof I have funds?. How much would I need on me?.

Also, for any math whizzes, I looked up flights earlier and saw one leaving London on August 28th and returning on 24th November. I worked that out to be 88 days. It arrives in London at 11:05 the next morning, but i'd be guessing that's fine as it's on London time, flying into the UK and also would only be the 89th day. I want to play it safe.

Thank you. :)

Tell me if I'm wrong about anything on here, because I don't want to pay for a flight and then be sent back home! lol
