I am getting a new camera and I want to know which one is best. I don't want one of those small thin digital cameras, I need something that takes pictures right away and can continue to take many after that. A built in video camera would be nice too but no necessary. Right no I am thinking about the
SLT-A35 but if there is something better I want to know.

When searching the internet for a new digital camera you come across so many different makes and models it can be a very stressful task choosing the one which will suite your individual needs perfectly.
I have answered “What digital camera should I buy” or similar a million times and always give the same advice which is to use a review site which hand picks a range of only the best digital cameras and then writes simple easy to understand review without all the confusing technical jargon you usually come across when shopping online.

I own Canon and Fuji and recommend both brands because of the excellent experience I've had with both over years of use.
One thing you're asking about is called lag time. Every automatic camera (digitals are automatic) has lag time. dslr cameras have the shortest and the cheaper the camera, it seems, the longer the lag. That lag is the time the camera needs to gather focus and exposure Information so you can have a photo. There is no getting around it, there is no "right away" so learn to live with it because that isn't going to change regardless of what brand you buy.
"Continue to take many after that?" What does that mean - burst? Burst is available on many cameras but you're still going to have the lag for the first one and then every following photo shot in burst will have the same focus and exposure information locked in so it you change subjects during burst there's a good chance of blur, out of focus or under / over exposed shot.
What brand is the SLT-A35? As Jim A pointed out, shutter lag you are going to have at least on your first shot because it's a point and shoot type camera you are looking for. You don't want small thin camera, ok, but you don't mention what features you are looking for. Just on that alone I suggest the Fuji S2950. It's not small and thin, it has lots of zoom, aperture/shutter priority which can be extremely helpful, and a viewfinder. All for about $180-.
The Nikon Coolpix S3000 scored eight out of ten when we tested it back in July 2010 and the Coolpix S3100 builds on this by offering a longer zoom lens, more megapixels and HD video recording. Noise performance isn't as good as the Coolpix S3000 but this is likely to be due to the higher resolution and macro mode is also pretty poor. Overall, the Coolpix S3100 is capable of taking good pictures for an extremely reasonable price and with its slim body and fantastic auto modes the Nikon Coolpix S3100 will please many a compact user.
