You're comparing Classic Liberalism with what goes by that name today. Classic liberals like Locke and Jefferson would find today's liberals as alien as Klingons.

There is a difference between the liberals that helped break us from our chains in the 18th century, and the liberals of today. If you tried using facts to back up your arguments, we wouldn't call you idiots, instead we would just disagree with you.

Why do liberals automatically dismiss conservatives as robber barons one moment, and welfare abusers the next?

1. Liberals believe man can change climate warming and cooling, even though the earth was doing that a long time before man showed up on the planet. They are foolish enough to be hoodwinked into spending trillions in taxes and penalties to people who aren't really trying to save the planet but are really only lining their own pockets and retirement funds.

2. Liberals think they can spend more money than they bring in and not bankrupt a nation.

3. Liberals are hypocrits wanting others to exhibit values, morals and standards, they themselves won't live by.

4. Liberals get their news from comedians and call it fact.

5. Liberals want someone else to take care of them because they don't want to take care of themselves.

6. Liberals hate it when a republican get us into a war, but are fine and dandy with it if their guy does it.

7. Liberals think government jobs produce wealth, when they do just the opposite.

8. Liberals think they can tax the rich and that the rich are stupid enough not to figure out how to get out of paying the taxes they want to tax them with.

9. Liberals hate corporate welfare, but let GE and their favorites get of of paying taxes and let them take subsidies and force people to buy their products.

10. Liberals don't seem to think for themselves but parrot the propaganda they have been taught by their progressive marxist leaders.

11. Liberals think socialism is a good thing, even though it has never worked out well for any country that has immersed themselves heavily into it.

12. Liberals think their elitist politicians are trying to help them, even though they are using them for their own political power and gain and in the end they screw the little guy over...case in point, all the blacks are still waiting for Obama to help them pay their mortgages and fill their gas tanks ;)

Classical liberalism (modern Libertarianism) has brought us to freedom, but modern liberalism is hardly any different from the mercantilist practices of the colonial British government.

Though I'm not a Republican, I do believe that it's unfair to always dismiss conservatives as something along the lines of "Bible-thumping, gun-toting, uneducated rednecks."

Probably because some so-called Liberals ARE idiots and give a bad name to the rest of us. In my experience, it's the most obnoxious of any group that an ideologically opposed group focuses on. That includes the Left's obsession with Palin, for instance.

We're a two party country, and while the 2 parties are basically the same and have shared power for over 150 years, they are very, very good at pitting us against each other to keep us distracted and angry.

Because traditional liberals brought us forward. Unfortunately the modern liberal bears almost no resemblance to those great liberals and, it seems, that modern conservatives are more like them..

Because they are. They're either minorities, blacks, Jews, Hispanics, who vote liberal without having any individual thought themselves as these races do, or their simpletons who believe fantasies like multiculturalism, how we all end up riding unicorns and living happily forever together, or that Global Warming, that taxing ourselves into a lower standard of living will save the cute polar bears.

We don't regard those liberals as idiots because we respect and admire those liberals because they had wisdom and understood that a shared governmental power was necessary, that a free economy was best, that freedom to one's own opinion and freedom to worship one's own God was best.

We regard today's liberals as idiots because they believe that government should hold all the power, they want to bring us back to absolute monarchs, but this time, not a single monarch capable of being deposed, but a network of monarchs that can never be deposed. They want to take all of those freedoms men and women fought and died for throughout our nation's history and give them back to government to control and rule over.

Liberals today are just about the polar opposite of yesterday's liberals.

Wow. Really? and you don't see a "monarch" in office today?? Obama is the biggest one, yet he can do no wrong in you people's eyes. So blinded by this guy and his idiologies!
