I mean really. They have a few speeches, they vote, they have a few speeches, and the candidate accepts the nomination. Four to five hours max.
I guess they figure in a few hours for clapping, then some lame guy sings a song about being proud, more clapping, and a few hours to throw confetti, and a couple more hours to shake hands and kiss spouses, or knuckle bumps. I hope they confine the bumping to knuckles

Day Two: The Keynote Speech, the nominee's spouses' speech
Day Three: The VP Speech
Day Four: The nominees' speech
These are money making events. The host cities rake in tourism money from the influx of delegates. The parties whip up donation money from the heightened rhetoric of speeches. And the TV networks bring in advertising money by turning hype into ratings. So the longer these things drag on, the more cash for the interested parties.
Get ready for two straight weeks of it!

Because a lot of really self-important people need to be made to feel important by pretending anyone cares about what they have to say.
Both parties have tons of kegs, and they can't stop partying until the kegs are empty.
They have to spend all of that campaign money. They can't bank it.
