Asylum Green Card Process?
Hi
My Chinese GF is applying for asylum in an attempt to get her green card. She has her (first?) court date last month, and will make another appearance this month.
She told me that if the hearing next week goes well, she should be able to leave town and come and visit me right away. But if there are issues, she thinks her attorney may want her to stay in town.
If the hearning next week does not got real well, why would her attorney want her to stay longer? What would he have her do?

Update:I am also wondering if the asylum application and documents are public, so that I could get a copy and understand her situation better!

In a worst-case scenario, if her asylum application is denied she could be taken into detention and subsequently deported. Even if she wins her asylum case, she will not have documentation of her legal status for a few weeks, so depending on how she entered the US and what her current status is it is possible if she tries to travel she could be stopped until the police or whoever figure out that she is legally allowed to be in the country. There could be paperwork she needs to deal with. There are a bunch of reasons her attorney could want her to stick around.
NOTHING about an asylum case is public record. It's federal law. If she's your girlfriend, why don't you just ask her about her situation? You don't need to read her asylum application when you can talk to her!
As a side note, she is not eligible for a green card until 1 year has passed from the date she was granted asylum.
