My 20 tr old son has a bad past with BAD friends, he's just learned that he's going to be a father and has since really been trying to straighten himself out. About a month ago my step kids Apt got robbed and it was one of my son's OLD friends that did it and he's trying to implicate my son--My son has good alibi's and swears he wasn't involved and I believe him. The Detectives have NO proof what-so-ever but want my son to take a Lie-Detector test! I said "NO" because my son is severe ADHD and is hyper-active anyway--so I don't believe it will come out right. If he went to them and told them that he Has No SIDE to tell because he simply wasn't there, can they still make him take that test? There's NO Physical or circumstantial evidence AT ALL and those types of test ARE not permitted in Court anyway--so what good would it do? They are only going on the word of a kid who has it out for my son. Besides that--my son knows that he would be the first person my step kids would blame.

You were wise not to let him take the test. Don't let him talk to any more detectives. If they arrest him tell him not to answer ANY questions without an attorney. They probably won't arrest him because of the lack of evidence, but just in case talk to him about it and make him promise he will not answer any questions. Many people who are innocent think they have noting to hide, so why not talk without an attorney and answer any questions. They often end up in prison.
A lie detector test can not help your son. If he passes, it is inadmissible in court. If he fails they will use it to keep hounding him. He has nothing to gain by taking it and everything to lose.
I've had similar experience don't talk to the detective at all whatever he says they will take it wrong and turn it around on him don't say nething get a lawyers card give it to him and tell the detective if he wants too talk to him go through the lawyer never take a lie detector test ever they r wrong and if u son as adhd it WILL be wrong and they will use that against him please take my advice and see a lawyer and don't talk to the detective with out on unless they arrest him he doesn't have to say nething to him except talk to my lawyer i have nothing to say
" . . . can they still make him take that test?"
1. They can not compel him to take a polygraph.
2. You have no idea what evidence the police have against him.
3. 99% of the time kids lie to their parents when they are guilty.
no state in the country can make you take a lie-detector test.have you son contact a lawyer if he is question by the police.
Yellow Pages, first (lawyer)
Then an appointment with a doctor to get him on medication for his ADHD
a lie detector test is inadmissible in court so he does not have to take it and they cant force him
