Rick Riordans Percy Jackson, Kane Chronicles, or The Heroes of Olympus series are sooo good! A popular review site compared Percy to being the new Harry.
The Gemma Doyle Trilogy, definetly more for girls tho.
Lois McMaster Bujold has a number of fantasy series, most notable the Miles Vorkosigan/Naismith series. If you go by the order in which the books were written, they jump around in time. The first one chronologically is "Falling Free," followed by "Shards of Honor."
The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, amazing characters and plot. A bit like HP with the whole Magician thing except instead of wands they summon genies. It's witty.
The Wizard of Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin
Also I suggest you read The Ice Princess by Theodore Svea. It's fun to read and has an unforgettable story. In the book a prince has his heart, memories, and crown stolen by a cold and cruel unattainable beauty.
