Well my school is organizing a trip to Colombia and I am debating whether or not to go. Is it safe? What precautions should I take if I do decide to go. The trip is for 1 week and the purpose is to enhance the spanish of the spanish students.

Hi there,
I have been to Colombia several times and recently lived for 3 months in Cartagena. I traveled throughout Colombia and never had any problems. Of course you have to apply common sense and watch your surroundings like you should in any other country, or even at home. I personally would consider Colombia a safe country to travel to.
Have a great time in Colombia, you know that you'll love it.
My friends in Colombia havent been mugged once, however in Australia ive probably been about 5 situations i was lucky to get out off, one guy even said he feels safer there than in USA, and even if you did get mugged they wont hurt you if you hand over like $15, in Australia people usually bash you then take your money.
Colombia is freaking awsome trust me most beautiful vibrant place full of super friendly people, you wont want to go back, but im glad people have this view so therfore the county isnt full of tourists
Late afternoon only travel by car, dont take money out at atm's dont walk aroudn with laptops and ipods in your ears,
Go o Medellin, bogota is nice But Medellin and Armenia qundio hands down win, some places in Colombia are like heaven lol.
seriously columbia isnt a huge biggy. the best countries in south america are peru, brazil and maybe argentina.
peru first because they have so much culture and alot of the culture there is still around. and its like the oldest country there. peru is a VERY VERY beautiful place, you have the amazing food (very natural), the fantastic nice people, you have good weather, ALOT of sites to see (machu picchu is one of the seven wonders of the world), so you will never get bored.
brazil second, because like there culture is fantastic too, and there is not that much sites to see.
argentina 3rd,( like the same as brazil)
--- when i went there with my class, all my class wanted to go to peru, they heard so many good things and they watched a video about it and they were amazed. my class is now begging our teacher to go there again, they miss it so much. I love peru and i think its the best country in south america.
