Mirena birth control yes or no?
I just had my first child 3 weeks ago, and at my 6 week postpartum appointment they are going to insert Mirena which is a 5 year IUD. Well I was wondering a few things about Mirena, such as:
1. Does the inserting of Mirena hurt?
2. How long does the inserting process take?
3. Does it work for you?

4. Any major problems or concerns I should know about?

I got my Mirena inserted at my 6 week PP visit. After having a baby, it didn't hurt at all because my cervix had already went through that not that long ago. Nothing phases that thing now. Lol. A lot of people told me it was the worst pain they've ever felt, and that scared the crap out of me, but I honestly didn't feel a bit of pain from it. Just a little awkward feeling.
It takes about 10 minutes (if that) to measure, dialate, insert, and cut the strings.
It has 100% worked for me so far. I've had it since January and I haven't been pregnant on it yet! lol. I heard it was more common than they lead you to believe, but that's out of a lot of cases. I still have scares and I take tests every few months just to make sure because the IUD took away ALL of my periods!! Doesn't for everybody, but there's a lot of people that do stop. I haven't had one since...Jeese...FOREVER!! :)
Just like everything else out there, there are problems or concerns. The only problems I've had to deal with, is minor side effects, and cysts (which is also a side effect). We went through a series of ultrasounds to watch the cysts on my ovaries and found that they aren't even related to the IUD. I'd rather it would be!!
I kind of want my IUD taken out just because I'm having a lot of problems with my lady bits right now with cysts and all of that. But I do like it, and would reccomend it to you. My cousin has had the mirena for 2 years now, and my aunt had one (well, two) for 10 years. No pregnancies with them on it either.
