its clear our founding fathers did not like democracy and wished for us to be a republic.
"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself."
John Adams
The average democracy lasts 200 years. Why do people ignore this?
A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where 51% of the people may take away the rights of the other 49%.
Thomas Jefferson
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the people discover they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the canidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy--to be followed by a dictatorship.”
Alexander Tyler

A more complete description of what our founding fathers gave us is a "Constitutional Republic."
The Constitution was supposed to limit the reach of government into our lives. It was supposed to define and limit what the federal government could do. Thus, the representatives we elect could not exceed the bounds of Constitutional limits and encroach upon our liberty and freedoms.
Unfortunately, these limits have largely been ignored. Now, the representatives govern in ways that seem best to them. So we have "progressed" to become a representative democracy.
We are now experiencing exactly what Jefferson and Tyler indicated. We have become the greatest debtor nation in history as leaders must promise more and more to get elected. We have lost our freedom of speech as politically incorrect thoughts are labeled as hate speech. And, the government is increasingly controlling more of our resources, monitoring our communications, and concentrating power into a smaller cadre of people.
A republic is much more stable of that of a democracy. A democracy is easily corrupted by manipulators, for example, Athens is seen as one of the most corrupt societies in human history. This is why I believe that Democracy is too good to be true, because it is. Democracy is a corrupted illusion that has false promises. Democracy is best served in small-scale levels, but should never be applied to the national, state/province, or large regional level.
Sorry if I came across as cold and heartless, but this is just reality as it is.
Because it is the least terrible form of government we've thought up. That's why our founding fathers set us up as a democratic republic.
Claiming we don't really practice democracy and shouldn't promote it is just evidence of your conservative media brainwashing. A hatred of the Democratic Party does not need to extend to a hatred of democracy itself, too. That's just idiocy.
