I had braces before and it depends on the situation.

Getting them on doesn't hurt at all. after a few days, you will notice some pain while eating, but that goes away after a week.

No pain no gain! It's so worth it. Tons of people get braces. It's not that bad, just take some advil for the first couple days then there Is no pain and you'll forget you have them in a week. Then they'll only hurt after they get adjusted. But again just for a few days.

Spacers were the worst experience I have ever went through and braces didn't hurt at all.

just got my braces removed a week ago, it hurts the first week u got them on, but after that, it wont hurt anymore. it just hurts when the doctor tighten the braces on monthly checkup but that wasnt as bad as when u first get. this is just my experience

Of course they hurt. They both move your teeth, which are set in bone.
