100% pure maple syrup will have nothing but maple syrup.
Artificially flavored maple syrup will have added sugar as well as corn syrup.
Look for the real stuff pretty expensive due to the expense of production. (It takes about 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup not to mention hours of reduction)
Real maple syrup does NOT have added sugar. Anything that does is not maple syrup. It's maple-flavoured syrup or a syrup which is partly maple and partly something else. Real maple syrup is maple tree sap that has been boiled to remove some of the water and all the sugar in it came from the maple tree. Nothing added, ever. Read the labels carefully on whatever it was you bought. They are not 100% pure genuine maple syrup.
If you want a sugar-free syrup, you can buy it and add maple flavouring(it's artiificial), or make a sugar-free syrup and do the same. Whether those sugar substitutes are healthy, I can't decide for you. Some people think they're okay, some don't.
Real maple syrup is made from boiling the sap of the sugar maple tree until it turns into a syrup. It has no added sugar or cornsyrup. If you found something with added sugar or sucralose you had maple "flavored" syrup. Some of these syrups have a small amount of maple syrup added, but it is mostly maple flavoring, sugar and corn syrup.
Up here in Canada, our maple syrup is 100% maple syrup.
Real maple syrup is expensive. And you don`t need to add sugar to create a syrup consistency. The sap of the sugar maple will thicken as it renders down, without adding sugar.
Sugar is a lot cheaper than maple sap. Because there`s a lot more of it available.
If you can`t find real maple syrup in your stores, try buying some online.

My friend, maple syrup is a natural product from the sap of the sugar maple tree. It has sugar in it: maple sugar.
I have no idea what would constitute "maple syrup" that had a sugar substitute in it. Maple syrup is just reduced maple tree sap. I have made it myself many times. It is the only syrup I put on pancakes and I use it in many other recipes.
Additional Details: No, that is not maple syrup. That is syrup, maple flavored. Get the real thing. It is much, much healthier and totally natural.
maple syrup has no added sugar it is a natural sweetener made from boiled sap of the hardwood maple tree in the spring. There are artificial sugar free reduced substitutes but they are not maple syrup and can not by law be called that. Yjey can be called maple flavored or pancake syrup etc.
100% maple syrup is made from the sap of maple trees and is 100% natural. If you are buying the fake stuff, just switch to the real maple syrup. It's a lot more expensive, but well worth it!
